Research

The overarching goals of the Palliative Research Center are to develop, evaluate, and implement evidence-based approaches to improving the quality of care for seriously-ill patients and their families. A major focus of our current research is developing care management strategies to support ‘primary’ palliative care provision, including symptom management and advance care planning. Within UPMC oncology, cardiology, pulmonology, and nephrology practices, we are currently training and supporting clinicians to provide "primary" palliative care.
